Wow! What a busy second semester it has been in maths!

Maths Inquiry
Our current Maths Inquiry has a mapping focus. It has been interesting for the students to view real maps of our school since the renovations and one of our parents passed on maps of the new Box Hill Hospital. As well as this, a parent has come into speak to us about how builders interpret architectural plans and take the project through to completion. The students are also creating their own maps, interpreting maps, giving direction to locations using mapping conventions and at the moment are designing their own learning areas for BEPS.

The teachers are impressed with their innovative ideas of how our LC learning areas might look in the future. The students have very capability used digital technology to manipulate and model their learning environment.

As part of our Inquiry, the students have used a website called Homestyler, which allows them to create 2D and 3D plans of a floor space. If your child would like to show you their floor plan ideas, they can show you on this website: www.homestyler.com

Math Talent Quest (MTQ)
Many students again elected to undertake a maths project for MTQ. The learning community was a buzz with mathematical conversations and investigations, with topics across a diverse range of mathematical concepts.

Unfortunately the MTQ competition only allows for each school to enter a certain number of projects. It is always a challenge for teachers to choose the entrants to represent the school. The Maths Association of Victoria provide teachers with a rubric to select student entries.

Congratulations to the students shown in the table below, who were selected this year to represent the school. The table shows the results of the students. We would also like to congratulate all the other students who had a go in the Quest this year.
