Ode to the Thinkers

Blog post by Ella Bayes, student
The Philosothon!

This is one of the longest words I have ever heard. It’s all about philosophy, and kids putting their heads together to try and decide what the artist was thinking, what is happening, what’s the hidden meaning and what feelings are in it? I have decided one thing, 4/5/6’s are very, very dark.
So where was it you may ask?  Well, it was in the city at the National Gallery of Victoria. It was a fun day and by the end of it all our heads were very sore.

One of my group’s favourite pieces of art was ‘Double O’ by Žilvinas Kempinas. It consisted of two fans with two pieces of video tape in between. The fans kept the video tape up and it fluttered beautifully. Part of the artwork was also the shadow. We concluded that the fans were two people and the tape was their destiny.

Now you may think a trip to the gallery and hearing others thinking would be prize enough, but no, these lucky philosophers were all awarded a medal.
I wish I could go again next year!

Congratulations and well done to all of the students who participated in the Philosothon, 2013
