Already we've started with some whole group challenges, especially the construction task of using 100 straws to design and make a 50cm tower capable of holding a cup of water. Students worked cooperatively and inventively at the task, many achieving MOST of the parameters - except balancing the water!
Well here we go, 2013 already. One lot of marvelous Year Six students head off to Secondary school and another group step up from Year Three. And so it goes.
So last week we had kids working on a cooperative challenge to build a 50 cm tower from straws, capable of holding a cup of water. They worked really thoughtfully and creatively and most groups achieved MOST of the parameters - except balancing the water!
This week we'll be following up with toolboxes looking at structure, design and the way triangular braces provide strength and stability. Then there'll be new challenges!
Already we've formed new literacy groups, while the maths groups will be self-chosen initially as students prepare to work on investigations leading up to the Maths Talent Quest.
More really great stuff to come!
